BACKGROUND

In order to scope my research, in this entry, I will set out some background that provides you a good understanding or a different view of this topic. According to this purpose I gathered as much information as possible, but I decided to focus on some statistics about population, immigration laws, culture –related theory and some news. So, I left important events occurred in Spain that are not directly connected to immigration.

First piece of information I would like to show you is a population statistic, so you can get an idea of immigration movement through this 30 years and peruvian movement specifically. Thus, i established three periods of time: 1981, 2001 and 2011; and three groups for comparison: Madrid population, foreigners and Peruvians.

Now I would show off some important immigration laws and the evolution of these ones because I want you to get an idea what immigrants have to deal with. After Spanish migration movement it comes immigration movement, so Spain began on destine as life level got better in here. Due to this movement has been increased, government approved an immigration law in 1985. This law stablished some rights to immigrants by making them not equal to Spanish. Later, in 1999 there is a new law that make possible to immigrants to become legal residents. After that there were three reforms until 2003. Nowadays, there are four main ways to live legally in Spain. I will just mention them: a temporarily permission, a permission for working, bringing your family, and an exceptional temporarily permission.

Following my research background I want to present you culture shock curve. This social theory explains in a better way situation what an immigrant has to deal with in four stages.

When a foreigner arrives to a country first emotions are similar to a honeymoon because everything seems marvellous like a dream. Then, it comes to reality and feel a deep nostalgic and a feeling of non-belonging appears what is called culture shock per see.  As a third stage, a mixed of opposite feelings start and the foreigner began an adjustment process to new culture. Finally, it masters situation and control the crush of cultures.

I present you a funny way to understand culture shock curve through these videos.

As a final intention of becoming aware of daily difficulties an immigrant have to integrate to a new country, I will linked some pics with news about racism attacks. It is remarkable to point out that the first murder of an immigrant was in 1992 by a police officer. Since that there were many racism expressions, agressions and attacks.

Summarizing I hope this whole information I have chosen, open your mind and makes you comprehend the different aspects that together impact on immigrant living.
